What Is Hot Stone Energy Therapy?

A treatment combining a soothing massage with Hot Stones and the Universal Life Force Energy of Reiki. The Hot Stones are placed on specific energy points, or chakras on the body, to help the body clear blocked energy, and to help relax and dissolve stress. This in turn moves the surplus energy away from the over-stimulated areas and transfers the new energy where needed. The Reiki energy enters every pore of your body to produce feelings of calmness, peace and a sense of well-being. Hot stones combined with Reiki allows for healing of the mental, emotional, spiritual and physical bodies.

Hot Stones also help release tension and toxins from ligaments, nerves, and muscles in every part of the body to help promote a natural release resulting in a wonderful state of health and well-being. This treatment is proven to be very beneficial for people suffering from arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscle aches and pain as well as trauma, emotional and mental pain.

Where Did Hot Stone Therapy Originate?

Hot Stone Therapy is an ancient treatment used by the Native Indians, the Russians, Japanese and other nationalities around the world to heal the body and spirit. This therapy was often used by the Native Indians during healing ceremonies and in sweat lodges.

What Type of Stones Are Used?

The stones used in this treatment are hand picked basalt stones. Basalt is a volcanic rock which is formed by the rapid cooling of lava on the Earth's surface. These stones contain minerals they've gathered as they lay at the bottom of rivers and streams over the ages allowing the flow of the water to smooth them to their present softness.

What to Expect During a Hot Stone Treatment

For the full body treatment I begin by having the client lie on their back on a massage table. The treatment often begins by applying oil to the body, which allows the Hot Stones to glide smoothly along the skin and muscles. There are times that I  will put down the stones and use my hands to directly massage the skin. The Hot Stones may then be placed back onto the body and left for a short period of time.

I will place small Hot Stones between your toes and in the palm of your hands and repeat the sequence.

I always hold the stones first before touching them to your body, which ensures that the temperature will not be too hot. Everyone, however, has their own comfort range. Be sure to speak up if the stones are too warm for you.

How Long Is A Treatment?

The full body treatment is approximately 1 1/2 hours (90 minutes) in length. The facial treatment lasts 20 minutes and includes the neck and shoulders. Before the first treatment, there is a short form to fill in which describes the treatment.

What type of Oil Is Used?

I only use Holly oil during a Hot Stone Therapy treatment. The oil comes from the branches and leafs of the holly plant and is then de-ionized.  A water based Vitamin E is then added along with Jojoba as a therapeutic moisturizer to add glide. The positive aspects of Holly Oil are that it is a non-scented, non-staining oil.  It will not cause allergic reactions as it is not a nut based oil. Holly Oil will not clog pores or leave an oily residue on the client. It will be absorbed by the body with no ill effects, similar to the property of a sweet almond oil.

Essential Oil

If you would like an essential oil added to the water that the Hot Stones are heated in, and/or directly added to the massage oil please request this before hand. An essential oil is any concentrated liquid containing aroma compounds from plants and herbs, including leaves, roots, fruit, grasses, flowers, berries, gums and barks. Specific aromas carried by essential oils have curative effects. I usually carry Rosemary essential oil and a calming essential oil blend of mango and lemon.
