What is Reiki?

Reiki  is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing. Reiki is channeled through the practitioner to the recipient by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. Life force energy flows within the physical body and it also flows around us in a field of energy called the aura. The knowledge that an unseen energy flows through all living things and is connected directly to quality of health has been part of the wisdom of many cultures since ancient times.

What Does the Word Reiki Mean?

The word Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is made up of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

Is Reiki A Religion?

Although Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion. Practitioners are not asked to change any religious or spiritual beliefs they may have. They are free to continue believing anything they choose and are encouraged to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices.

What Does a Treatment Feel Like?

Reiki will go where it is needed most. What one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by most people. In addition, many feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them.  You may feel tingling in your body and the practitioners hands may feel exceptionally warm to you. Others yet, may feel nothing but the fact that they are lying there with warm hands on them.

Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings so a state of peace and well-being can be experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside of their bodies or have visions, see colours and other mystical experiences.
In many instances a person will feel some combination of the above.

The Reiki practitioner cannot predict how much Reiki an individual receives in a session; we only know that the client draws what they need at that time.

What Does Reiki Heal?

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. Reiki always works and the more open you are the more intense your experience will be.

Reiki cleanses the body of built up toxins, relieves pain, soothes shock, calms the mind and emotions, and accelerates the body's natural ability to heal itself at the same time promoting a state of total relaxation and well-being. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Regular use of Reiki leads to an increase in general vitality and well being and a sense of inner peace. It accelerates and promotes the healing process and is capable of improving the quality of one's life to an amazing degree. Each time you have a session, Reiki meets you where you are at that moment and then moves you from that place closer to your unique place of balance. Reiki involves healing in a way that will empower you while respecting your feelings and choices.

What to Expect After a Treatment

After the treatment it is important to rest for a few minutes until you are ready to get up. Some people are so relaxed that they feel somewhat groggy, whereas others have expressed an increase in their normal  level of energy. It is important to drink plenty of water afterwards in order to help flush out any toxins that have been released by the Reiki energies.

Most cases result in the gentle healing energy improving a condition the client had prior to the session, helping to relieve pain and anxiety. However, energy treatment can also produce changes and emotional processing.  Sometimes, due to the release of toxins and energetic blocks a recipient will briefly feel worse after a treatment rather than better. These feelings usually subside fairly quickly. Reiki stimulates your natural healing ability and this may result in the clearings becoming apparent. This means that you are becoming more open and that your energetic flow is building in strength; this is similar to a clogged drain gradually opening up and clearing. If these feelings do not subside within a day or two, it is important to contact your Reiki practitioner and discuss your situation and possibly go in for another treatment or two to complete the process the first treatment began.

It is also not necessary to have any kind of "symptoms" during or even after a Reiki treatment. It does not infer that the treatment did not work since no two individuals have the same energetic levels. Your energy is specific to you much like your fingerprint is.

How Long Does A Reiki Treatment Last?

Reiki treatments generally last for 60 minutes, though sometimes longer treatments are required - this depends on what is needed by each individual client. The first Reiki treatment usually lasts around 90 minutes as I complete a treatment form with you to establish how I can best help you.
